The Breast Augmentation Procedure Dr. Keyes will perform breast augmentation surgery while you are under general anesthesia for optimal comfort. There are three incision locations that may be used in the breast augmentation procedure, including: 1) under the breast at the crease 2) under the arm pit 3) through the areola, the pinkish tissue upon which the nipple rests. Other techniques, such as incisions within the umbilicus or “belly button” are also reviewed. There are three placement locations such as under the pectoral muscles, above the pectoral muscles and under the breast tissue, or partially under the muscle. The decisions for the incision location and placement location will be made jointly between Dr. Keyes and you. Dr. Keyes will identify specific reasons why he has certain recommendations and this will allow you to make a better educated decision about the procedure. During the procedure, the breast implants will be slipped under the appropriate area and incisions will be delicately sutured into place leaving no visible sign of the stitches.
